January 30, 2017 P-Day #40

Hey shorties!!
What a goooood week!!!! This week we met with EVERY investigator we have this week!! I am pretty sure that is the first time that has ever happened on my mission!!
Cool story of the week: I was asked to talk in sacrament meeting....which I wasn't excited for haha I like to talk...but it’s still stressful every time haha! It was our ward mission leader who had to pick which one of the six missionaries in the ward who was speaking and he said my name just kept coming to his mind. On Saturday I found out why! We had a lesson with the Morphy's (our 12 &13 year old gators) and invited them to church, and used my talk as leverage haha! But still no luck! It was Laurs birthday and she said she wasn't spending it at church...until I told her that if she came I would sneak twenty one pilots song lyrics into my talk! So we agreed that they would come to sacrament, but after that was over they were going home! Saturday night we were texting their mom (she is a less active sister working with the Elders) and seeing if it was looking like they were going to come and she said that Laureli had been trying to convince Isabelle all night, without any luck, that they should go.  Soooo then I promised in addition to the song lyrics I would also get Once Upon a Time (her favorite tv show and funny enough, mine too) in my talk too! But they still hadn't decided! Then, Sunday morning 20 minutes before church we get a text from sister Morphy that says, "they are in the car. I can't believe it." So of course we freaked out a little...okay a lot! AND they were there!!! They heard my talk and my sneaky quotes/lyrics! THEN after that they decided to stay for sunday school!!! THEN they stayed for young women's too!!! It was amazing!!! Total breakthrough with them!! I couldn't be happier! (:
Life is goood!
This morning to start off our P-day we got to go and help with the Halifax Temple Cleaning!!! That was sooo cool!! Just getting to explore the temple was AWESOME! Plus I took my family with me.....(:

January 23, 2017 P-Day #39

Hey hey!!
What a week!!!
I feel like I just wrote home...oh wait...I did!!!
Transfer weeks are cray cray, but the best!!! Sister Goodsell and I are both staying here in Halifax!! Which I am SO happy about!!! I seriously love Halifax! I thought I would want to travel around a lot, but I love being in areas a long time and really forming relationships with the people and there are just so many amazing people here I am just not ready to say goodbye to them yet!
We got to go to the temple this week!! Ahhhhh I just LOVE the temple!! Best place in the world...because its like you're not even in the world when you're there! Its a quick little visit to heaven (:
Sadly I got a little sick this week so we had to be in a couple of days! Being sick as a missionary is interesting! Its like, "NO I HAVE TO WORK YOU CAN'T CONTAIN ME!!! SATAN MUST BE DEFEATED" But then on the other hand its like, "ahhhh a nap...I forgot those even existed...wow I love these things! I'll take ten!" haha so thats pretty much been my week in a nutshell
This past week also held a monumental event for me...HUMP DAY!! Woo! Half way gone and I'm feeling strongggggg! 🎶
So so weird knowing 9 months have come and gone and I only have 9 left! I remember at the begging of my mission people were like, "oh it goes so fast you'll hit 9 months before you know it" and I just laughed and called them liars in my head...and now I'm here!!! They were actually telling the truth! At this rate I'll be home before you know it!! CRAZY!!!
My adorable family sent me a "hump day" package full oh wonderful camel things!!
Including this wonderful shirt...that I just had to wear even though it didn't exactly fit mission standards....I always find a way (;
Thanks for all the love and support!! You all are wonderful! Thanks for sticking around these past 9 months (: Its been swell!!!
LOVE LOVE LOVE you!!!

January 18, 2017 P-Day #38 Hump Week!!! & Transfer Week...no changes

Hello hello!!!
What a goooood week!! We had sooo many lessons!! Which is pretty much the best ever!!
We had one in particular I wanted to tell you about (: It was with Laur and Belle! So as you know they are our 12 & 13 year old investigators and we bonded over the fact that we have the same favorite band (twenty one pilots) Well, we had a lesson with the girls on Friday and it just wasn’t the best. I could tell they really weren't involved or feeling it! So I knew we had to come up with something good for our FHE lesson! While doing my personal studies on Monday morning my favorite song by Twenty One Pilots starts playing in my head, and I'm humming along...then BAM!! It hits me! I knew what we needed to do for the lesson! So of course I started scribbling away crazily and singing! I realized that the song "The Judge" could literally be written about Alma chapter 36!! Which is one of my favorite stories in the Book of Mormon! It’ about Alma the younger who's dad is a prophet and so him and his buddies, the sons of Mosiah, start going around causing trouble! They are out trying to get everyone to get as far away from the Christ as they can! Until an Angel of the Lord appears to them and tells them to stop and Alma the younger has an amazing experience with repentance and coming to Jesus Christ!
6 For I went about with the sons of Mosiah, seeking to destroy the church of God; but behold, God sent his holy angel to stop us by the way.
7 And behold, he spake unto us, as it were the voice of thunder, and the whole earth did tremble beneath our feet; and we all fell to the earth, for the fear of the Lord came upon us.
8 But behold, the voice said unto me: Arise. And I arose and stood up, and beheld the angel.
9 And he said unto me: If thou wilt of thyself be destroyed, seek no more to destroy the church of God.
10 And it came to pass that I fell to the earth; and it was for the space of three days and three nights that I could not open my mouth, neither had I the use of my limbs.
11 And the angel spake more things unto me, which were heard by my brethren, but I did not hear them; for when I heard the words—If thou wilt be destroyed of thyself, seek no more to destroy the church of God—I was struck with such great fear and amazement lest perhaps I should be destroyed, that I fell to the earth and I did hear no more.
12 But I was racked with eternal torment, for my soul was harrowed up to the greatest degree and racked with all my sins.
Which goes along with the first verse of the song
"when the leader of the bad guy sang something soft and soaked in pain I heard the echo from his secret hide away. He must of forgot to close his door as he cranked out those dismal chords and his four walls declared him insane"
15 Oh, thought I, that I could be banished and become extinct both soul and body, that I might not be brought to stand in the presence of my God, to be judged of my deeds.
16 And now, for three days and for three nights was I racked, even with the pains of a damned soul.
17 And it came to pass that as I was thus racked with torment, while I was harrowed up by the memory of my many sins, behold, I remembered also to have heard my father prophesy unto the people concerning the coming of one Jesus Christ, a Son of God, to atone for the sins of the world
"You're the judge oh no, set me freeeeee. You're the judge oh no, set me freeeee.  I know my souls freezing hells hot for good reason. So pleeeeease, take me."
18 Now, as my mind caught hold upon this thought, I cried within my heart: O Jesus, thou Son of God, have mercy on me, who am in the gall of bitterness, and am encircled about by the everlasting chains of death.
19 And now, behold, when I thought this, I could remember my pains no more; yea, I was harrowed up by the memory of my sins no more.
I don't know if this song is a surrender or a revel. I don't know if this ones about me or the devil. Ohhhh no!
20 And oh, what joy, and what marvelous light I did behold; yea, my soul was filled with joy as exceeding as was my pain!
21 Yea, I say unto you, my son, that there could be nothing so exquisite and so bitter as were my pains. Yea, and again I say unto you, my son, that on the other hand, there can be nothing so exquisite and sweet as was my joy.
Nah nah nah nah yeahhh yeahhhh nah nah nah nah yeaaaah yeah
So as we turn to the judge (Jesus Christ) he will set us free (repentance) and we can feel the nah nah yeah (joy)
We also had a baptism in the area! The elders taught her! Her name is Hannah and her and I are pretty much Bffs! She is so freaking cool!! She is 20, she had heard about the church years ago but never really looked into it! Then on a whim she decided to go to Utah, all by herself for a trip! While there she bought the "More than the Tattooed Mormon" book and read it on the plane!!! So by the time she was back home she had the whole book read and submitted her name to meet with missionaries! The elders are the ones who received the referral so they taught her(: But ever since her and I met at church it was instant love! She is seriously so amazing!! We also got to teach her before her baptism! For some weird reason the elders wanted us to teach the law of chastity to her...weird! Haha ahhh being a missionary is too good!
Love you all!!!

We went to the Atlantic Canadian Museum today! So fun!

This is the Barbie that everyone has been telling me I look exactly like haha so I'm apple white now I guess

January 9, 2017 P-Day #37

Hey hey wonderful people!!
This week has been wonderful! We were able to meet with ALL our investigators! Which is a miracle! That never happens haha! We had really good lessons with everyone!! We also got a new investigator, Nancy, this week!
We also got a pet....MOUSE! I know right!? First fleas now a mouse!? And I thought I wouldn't have to deal with these things since I was going to Canada...being wrong stinks sometimes haha!
Sister Goodsell saw it first and this is how the convo went...
Sis G: "Oh good golly is that a mouse?"
Me: SHUT UP! YOU'RE LYING"
Sis G.: "nope that's definitely a mouse"
Me: "I hate it when you lie to me"
Sis. G: "come look"
*dark small thing runs across office floor*
Me: "AHHHHHHHHHHH" *high pitched squealing  while jumping on closest thing to me, which happens to be a wheelie office chair
Me: "Sister Goodsell if you love me you'll get me the phone and my boots, because I seriously can get down barefoot on mouse ground"
Sis. G (being a saint) "okay I'll grab them!"
Me (being dumb) *Tries to put on said boots while standing on the wheelie chair and ends up tipping the chair over with me on it and FACE plants on the ground I didn't want to put my FEET on
Ahhh welcome to the life of Sister Hird....
The good news is I have become very good at laughing through these type of things since they seem to occur so frequently. So we laughed a lot that day and only cried a little when we heard scratching noises all night long
This week church was canceled due to excessive amounts of snow...only in Canada (: We have had to have the Elders come help us dig and push our car out of our parking lot the past three days in a row! Thank goodness for the awesome Elders we have!!
And that pretty much sums up the week hahah!!
Wow I love you guys!!
Have a wonderful week and pray that Lester (we were told if we named the mouse it would be less scary..no such luck) dies (:

January 2, 2017 P-Day #36

Hey hey!! Happy 2017!!
What a wonderful week!!!

This week was a little rough! Its hard getting into the work after SEEING your family and home! So I was having a bit of a hard time! Then we went on exchanges with the Sackville Sisters and it was really good for me to remember why I'm here and how great this work really is! So we recommitted and worked our butts off this week and God really blessed our efforts for it! We were able to get three new investigators this week!! They are all part-member families! One is in her 40's, she was taught a year ago by the Sisters. She read the WHOLE Book of Mormon while they were teaching her!! She lives with her elderly mom who is less active due to her health. We were able to have lesson with them both and it went really well! We are going back Tuesday to meet with them again! I think they will be such a support to each other! I'm excited to work with them both!

Then we also got two younger girls this week as investigators! They are 12 and 13. The AP's are working with reactivating the parents but the girls wouldn't come out when they were there so they asked us to come in and teach the girls and use our "sisters voodoo" (-elder Trivino) to get the girls interested! Which went really really well!! The girls are WONDERFUL!! I just love them!! I am really excited to work with them! We had our first lesson with them on Saturday and they wanted us to come back tonight to do FHE with their family (:It was really cool, the girls kind of thought Mormons were weird and don't like "real" people stuff. Then during the first few minutes of being there we bonded over Twenty One Pilots (my fav band and the 12 year olds) and Once Upon a Time ( my fav show and the 13 year olds) They were SO excited!! It was really cool! We shared a message on how the gospel blesses families (my favorite thing to testify of) and how God is our loving Heavenly Father (my other favorite thing to tell people) It was just great!!
I am seriously SO SO happy!
Post Christmas blues are over and I'm running to 2017 with my arms open wide and a big grin! This is our year everyone!

LOVE LOVE LOVE YOU

Meeeeerrrrrryyy Chrisssssttttmaaaaaaas boys and girls!!
What a wonderful time of the year!! This week was crazy! We were able to visit a lot of less actives and widows this week and drop off a little Christmas treat and message! It was wonderful!

Then of course we had lots of Christmas celebrations so I'll tell you about what we did (:
Christmas Eve we went to the Evans a family in the ward and they pretty much just did stuff for the missionaries! It was SO CUTE! They had all these games and presents for all of 6 of us missionaries in the area! Lots of food and fun!
Then Sunday we had church and Sandra, our investigator came with us to church then we went to our ward mission leaders house to skype(: (: YUP! I got to see my amazing family!! Wow that was amazing and weird haha! All the little kiddos are so dang grown up! I couldn't even believe it! Some of them will be so different when I get home! Its hard to miss, but worth it! Plus it has made me realize how much I LOVE and appreciate my family! Who knew one day I'd be crying just because I just got to see my mom and talk to her haha! Life!

Then after skyping I went downstairs and Brittany had made things for Sister Goodsell and I that would remind us of home because she's wonderful and sneaky she had found our moms emails and asked them what would remind us of home and made it for us (: Such a good yummy sweet surprise (:

Then we had a Christmas lunch with Luanna! SO SO YUMMY!
Then we went to our investigators for a Christmas dinner! She and her family were great! They made us feel right at home!
Then we went to the senior couples place and hung out, talked and played games for the rest of the evening (:

Such a fun busy few days! Which made it feel just like home!!
This time of year sure made me reflect on how truly blessed I am! I have the best family and friends in the world!!!!!! I feel so much love constantly and I know thats because I have all of you praying for me, sending cards, packages, and good thoughts my way all the time!! YOU ARE PHENOMENAL! I LOVE you all so so much!!!

Christmas Festivities

This sweet family, Brittany and Parker Huish, from Utah emailed to find out what some of these Sister’s Christmas traditions were so they could make them feel at home during Christmas!  Brittany Huish made crepes and buttermilk syrup for breakfast and Grandma Buehner’s “Thumb Print” cookies for dessert!  So grateful to those who love and care for my girl
while she is away serving!
