February 20, 2017 P-Day #43

Helllloooo world!!!
This week has been great!!! We didn't have tons of lessons, because the snow kept us off the roads, but that okay because the lessons we did have were stellar!!!
We had dinner with the the Morphy's on Friday! Then had a lesson after! It was nice to have dinner too, because we were able to just talk to them about "normal people" things haha! So Laureli and I basically freaked out twenty one pilots for an hour haha! They won a Grammy this past week and she was SO HAPPY! It was a blast! I just love them! Doing Personal Progress with them is going wonderful! They really really like it, and its helping them a lot! We do one value experience each lesson and then they do one in between our lessons(: They pick the value we do the next lesson, and last time they unknowingly decided they wanted virtue hahah soooo we had a lovely lesson on the law of chastity! FUN times! Sister Morphy was no good she was laughing so hard watching the girls squirm as we taught, it was a good time haha!! Then miracle occurred Sunday! So you know how much persuading we had to do to get them to church last time...well this week they were going to be out of town so we didn't really talk about coming to church much...then SURPRISE, Sunday morning guess who walks into the chapel..the WHOLE Morphy family!! It was a beautiful sight to see! It made me so happy because that shows the girls really are opening up and changing (: GOOD TIMES!!!
Well, that's all for this week folks!
Time sure seems to be flying....yeah...remember that time I hit my hump day...that was a month ago..today! For 10 months I have been Sister Hird ðŸ’› Oy vey, it feels like yesterday I got my mission call, but that was over a year ago! CRAZINESS!!
Love love love you!!

February 14, 2017 P-Day #42 Happy Valentine's Day

Hey hey!! I feel like SO much has happened this week...that I can't remember a single thing...hahah mission probs!

We met with Terry this week!! Her and her mom have come to church 2 weeks in a row!! Wooo! Terry might not know it yet...but she is so ready! She has read the whole Book of Mormon! She’s reading the whole bible now and the Book or Mormon again! She’s amazing basically (:

Laur and Belle are doing good (: They are normal 12 and 13 year olds, so we have some awesome lessons...then some lessons where there is no participation at all...just depends on the day (: BUT, I still just love the heck outta them and have all the hope and faith in the world that they WILL be baptized one day! I'm just hoping that day is in the near future (: But, everyone has their time! And I know even if theirs isn’t now that in some small way we are helping them!

Miracle of the week...so I'm not sure if y'all know...but, our mode of transportation was a babely big red minivan, that was so loving named Clifford! BUT this week the wonderful senior couple in the office surprised us with a BRAND NEW B-E-A-utiful 2017 Rav4! They had us come into the office so they could "check out" our car and surprised us by letting us leave with the Rav..and not just a rav...but a Rav in our choice of color (: We are truly spoiled...or as my Papa and Lolo like to say, "she's not spoiled, she’s just loved" haha ahhh #blessed

The weather has been insane this week!! We had a HUGE storm! It started snowing at 7pm Sunday and didn't stop until early this morning!! Which kept us inside ALL day yesterday! Hence why I am e-mailing today (Tuesday) opposed to yesterday (:
We got like 70cm (Canadians are weird and measure snow in cm, I think its to make them feel like they got more than they did...who knows with them hahah gotta love 'em)
But really..it was A LOT of snow!! This morning we spent like 3 hours helping our bishop’s wife shovel out her driveway and stuff! Bishop left to go out of town right before the storm hit!
I've been bundled up, inside for the past few days and if what everyone is saying is true, we will continue to be for the next few weeks! We are supposed to get another storm Wednesday, Saturday and then all next week!
So fun fun fun times in the maritime (:
LOVE LOVE LOVE you all!! Have a good week!

Also big shout out to my baby bro for turning 16 this week!!! (ladies who are my friends, I know he is a babe...and now dateable...but he's still too young for you...(: )

February 6, 2017 P-Day #41

Hey hey!!! What a good week!!
So I completely forgot last week...We got a new schedule!!! I have officially been living it one whole week and it is truly wondrous!!!
Our Schedule before:
6:30 - arise, pray, and exercise (30 min)
7:00 - Get ready for the day, eat breakfast
8:00 - personal study
9:00 - comp study
10:00 - out the door
*rest of the day regular missionary stuff*
9:00pm - return home and plan for the following day (30 min)
9:30pm - prepare for bed
10:30pm - lights out, go to bed

NEW schedule:
Still up by 6:30.
6:30-10:00 - no more strict schedule! We just have to:
-exercise for 30 min -Study personally for an hour -get ready for the day -plan for the day for 30 min
The order is completely up to us! Then we can just pick a time during the day we feel is an "dead time" work wise and do our companionship study
Then we are in by 9pm, but we plan in the morning now so we can just get ready and go to bed early!!
10:00pm - lights out
I LOVE the new schedule!! Its great!!! Its cool to be able to choose when to do something! I feel like a productive member of society! They did this because they were finding that missionaries weren't learning how to effectively plan their time because it was just being planned for them.
We met with lots of people this week! Its been great!
We got a new investigator! Dorothy! She is super sweet! She is friends with a YSA member! She is from China and here for school! She just kept saying "wow! I am so interested in this" the whole time we taught! I was saying to myself, " this isn't real!" the whole time haha talk about elect!!
Terry also came to church yesterday!! She is a less active (older woman with health issues that make coming to church hard) daughter! She and her mom came! Bev, her mom, said, "Terry dragged me out of bed this morning so we could come!" Terry is great!! She is really committed to learning more and progressing! The last lesson we had with her we committed her to read and to pray about being baptized! So we are excited to see how that went!

Good good week!!!
I can't think of anything else that happened this week.....oh wait...I am a blonde now!! Haha and I thought I could make it my whole mission without dying my hair...oh LOL! I hit 9 months and that little voice in my head was saying, "treat yo self" so I did haha!
I'll send better pics of it next week!!
LOVE LOVE LOVE YOU!!!

January 30, 2017 P-Day #40

Hey shorties!!
What a goooood week!!!! This week we met with EVERY investigator we have this week!! I am pretty sure that is the first time that has ever happened on my mission!!
Cool story of the week: I was asked to talk in sacrament meeting....which I wasn't excited for haha I like to talk...but it’s still stressful every time haha! It was our ward mission leader who had to pick which one of the six missionaries in the ward who was speaking and he said my name just kept coming to his mind. On Saturday I found out why! We had a lesson with the Morphy's (our 12 &13 year old gators) and invited them to church, and used my talk as leverage haha! But still no luck! It was Laurs birthday and she said she wasn't spending it at church...until I told her that if she came I would sneak twenty one pilots song lyrics into my talk! So we agreed that they would come to sacrament, but after that was over they were going home! Saturday night we were texting their mom (she is a less active sister working with the Elders) and seeing if it was looking like they were going to come and she said that Laureli had been trying to convince Isabelle all night, without any luck, that they should go.  Soooo then I promised in addition to the song lyrics I would also get Once Upon a Time (her favorite tv show and funny enough, mine too) in my talk too! But they still hadn't decided! Then, Sunday morning 20 minutes before church we get a text from sister Morphy that says, "they are in the car. I can't believe it." So of course we freaked out a little...okay a lot! AND they were there!!! They heard my talk and my sneaky quotes/lyrics! THEN after that they decided to stay for sunday school!!! THEN they stayed for young women's too!!! It was amazing!!! Total breakthrough with them!! I couldn't be happier! (:
Life is goood!
This morning to start off our P-day we got to go and help with the Halifax Temple Cleaning!!! That was sooo cool!! Just getting to explore the temple was AWESOME! Plus I took my family with me.....(:

I took my family to the temple (:

January 23, 2017 P-Day #39

Hey hey!!
What a week!!!
I feel like I just wrote home...oh wait...I did!!!
Transfer weeks are cray cray, but the best!!! Sister Goodsell and I are both staying here in Halifax!! Which I am SO happy about!!! I seriously love Halifax! I thought I would want to travel around a lot, but I love being in areas a long time and really forming relationships with the people and there are just so many amazing people here I am just not ready to say goodbye to them yet!
We got to go to the temple this week!! Ahhhhh I just LOVE the temple!! Best place in the world...because its like you're not even in the world when you're there! Its a quick little visit to heaven (:
Sadly I got a little sick this week so we had to be in a couple of days! Being sick as a missionary is interesting! Its like, "NO I HAVE TO WORK YOU CAN'T CONTAIN ME!!! SATAN MUST BE DEFEATED" But then on the other hand its like, "ahhhh a nap...I forgot those even existed...wow I love these things! I'll take ten!" haha so thats pretty much been my week in a nutshell
This past week also held a monumental event for me...HUMP DAY!! Woo! Half way gone and I'm feeling strongggggg! 🎶
So so weird knowing 9 months have come and gone and I only have 9 left! I remember at the begging of my mission people were like, "oh it goes so fast you'll hit 9 months before you know it" and I just laughed and called them liars in my head...and now I'm here!!! They were actually telling the truth! At this rate I'll be home before you know it!! CRAZY!!!
My adorable family sent me a "hump day" package full oh wonderful camel things!!
Including this wonderful shirt...that I just had to wear even though it didn't exactly fit mission standards....I always find a way (;
Thanks for all the love and support!! You all are wonderful! Thanks for sticking around these past 9 months (: Its been swell!!!
LOVE LOVE LOVE you!!!

January 18, 2017 P-Day #38 Hump Week!!! & Transfer Week...no changes

Hello hello!!!
What a goooood week!! We had sooo many lessons!! Which is pretty much the best ever!!
We had one in particular I wanted to tell you about (: It was with Laur and Belle! So as you know they are our 12 & 13 year old investigators and we bonded over the fact that we have the same favorite band (twenty one pilots) Well, we had a lesson with the girls on Friday and it just wasn’t the best. I could tell they really weren't involved or feeling it! So I knew we had to come up with something good for our FHE lesson! While doing my personal studies on Monday morning my favorite song by Twenty One Pilots starts playing in my head, and I'm humming along...then BAM!! It hits me! I knew what we needed to do for the lesson! So of course I started scribbling away crazily and singing! I realized that the song "The Judge" could literally be written about Alma chapter 36!! Which is one of my favorite stories in the Book of Mormon! It’ about Alma the younger who's dad is a prophet and so him and his buddies, the sons of Mosiah, start going around causing trouble! They are out trying to get everyone to get as far away from the Christ as they can! Until an Angel of the Lord appears to them and tells them to stop and Alma the younger has an amazing experience with repentance and coming to Jesus Christ!
6 For I went about with the sons of Mosiah, seeking to destroy the church of God; but behold, God sent his holy angel to stop us by the way.
7 And behold, he spake unto us, as it were the voice of thunder, and the whole earth did tremble beneath our feet; and we all fell to the earth, for the fear of the Lord came upon us.
8 But behold, the voice said unto me: Arise. And I arose and stood up, and beheld the angel.
9 And he said unto me: If thou wilt of thyself be destroyed, seek no more to destroy the church of God.
10 And it came to pass that I fell to the earth; and it was for the space of three days and three nights that I could not open my mouth, neither had I the use of my limbs.
11 And the angel spake more things unto me, which were heard by my brethren, but I did not hear them; for when I heard the words—If thou wilt be destroyed of thyself, seek no more to destroy the church of God—I was struck with such great fear and amazement lest perhaps I should be destroyed, that I fell to the earth and I did hear no more.
12 But I was racked with eternal torment, for my soul was harrowed up to the greatest degree and racked with all my sins.
Which goes along with the first verse of the song
"when the leader of the bad guy sang something soft and soaked in pain I heard the echo from his secret hide away. He must of forgot to close his door as he cranked out those dismal chords and his four walls declared him insane"
15 Oh, thought I, that I could be banished and become extinct both soul and body, that I might not be brought to stand in the presence of my God, to be judged of my deeds.
16 And now, for three days and for three nights was I racked, even with the pains of a damned soul.
17 And it came to pass that as I was thus racked with torment, while I was harrowed up by the memory of my many sins, behold, I remembered also to have heard my father prophesy unto the people concerning the coming of one Jesus Christ, a Son of God, to atone for the sins of the world
"You're the judge oh no, set me freeeeee. You're the judge oh no, set me freeeee.  I know my souls freezing hells hot for good reason. So pleeeeease, take me."
18 Now, as my mind caught hold upon this thought, I cried within my heart: O Jesus, thou Son of God, have mercy on me, who am in the gall of bitterness, and am encircled about by the everlasting chains of death.
19 And now, behold, when I thought this, I could remember my pains no more; yea, I was harrowed up by the memory of my sins no more.
I don't know if this song is a surrender or a revel. I don't know if this ones about me or the devil. Ohhhh no!
20 And oh, what joy, and what marvelous light I did behold; yea, my soul was filled with joy as exceeding as was my pain!
21 Yea, I say unto you, my son, that there could be nothing so exquisite and so bitter as were my pains. Yea, and again I say unto you, my son, that on the other hand, there can be nothing so exquisite and sweet as was my joy.
Nah nah nah nah yeahhh yeahhhh nah nah nah nah yeaaaah yeah
So as we turn to the judge (Jesus Christ) he will set us free (repentance) and we can feel the nah nah yeah (joy)
We also had a baptism in the area! The elders taught her! Her name is Hannah and her and I are pretty much Bffs! She is so freaking cool!! She is 20, she had heard about the church years ago but never really looked into it! Then on a whim she decided to go to Utah, all by herself for a trip! While there she bought the "More than the Tattooed Mormon" book and read it on the plane!!! So by the time she was back home she had the whole book read and submitted her name to meet with missionaries! The elders are the ones who received the referral so they taught her(: But ever since her and I met at church it was instant love! She is seriously so amazing!! We also got to teach her before her baptism! For some weird reason the elders wanted us to teach the law of chastity to her...weird! Haha ahhh being a missionary is too good!
Love you all!!!

We went to the Atlantic Canadian Museum today! So fun!

This is the Barbie that everyone has been telling me I look exactly like haha so I'm apple white now I guess

January 9, 2017 P-Day #37

Hey hey wonderful people!!
This week has been wonderful! We were able to meet with ALL our investigators! Which is a miracle! That never happens haha! We had really good lessons with everyone!! We also got a new investigator, Nancy, this week!
We also got a pet....MOUSE! I know right!? First fleas now a mouse!? And I thought I wouldn't have to deal with these things since I was going to Canada...being wrong stinks sometimes haha!
Sister Goodsell saw it first and this is how the convo went...
Sis G: "Oh good golly is that a mouse?"
Me: SHUT UP! YOU'RE LYING"
Sis G.: "nope that's definitely a mouse"
Me: "I hate it when you lie to me"
Sis. G: "come look"
*dark small thing runs across office floor*
Me: "AHHHHHHHHHHH" *high pitched squealing  while jumping on closest thing to me, which happens to be a wheelie office chair
Me: "Sister Goodsell if you love me you'll get me the phone and my boots, because I seriously can get down barefoot on mouse ground"
Sis. G (being a saint) "okay I'll grab them!"
Me (being dumb) *Tries to put on said boots while standing on the wheelie chair and ends up tipping the chair over with me on it and FACE plants on the ground I didn't want to put my FEET on
Ahhh welcome to the life of Sister Hird....
The good news is I have become very good at laughing through these type of things since they seem to occur so frequently. So we laughed a lot that day and only cried a little when we heard scratching noises all night long
This week church was canceled due to excessive amounts of snow...only in Canada (: We have had to have the Elders come help us dig and push our car out of our parking lot the past three days in a row! Thank goodness for the awesome Elders we have!!
And that pretty much sums up the week hahah!!
Wow I love you guys!!
Have a wonderful week and pray that Lester (we were told if we named the mouse it would be less scary..no such luck) dies (:
